Week 3 seems to be the week of lighter, brighter colors on dark background shapes. The trend continues with a new take on an old motif of stones. If you are curious, you can see previous versions of this idea here and here.
Truth be told, I’ve had this image, or something very similar in my mind for a while now. I had wanted to do a painting of dark stones with light stripes, although not necessarily for this project. With the paintings I’ve been doing lately that have lighter colors overlapping dark shapes, the idea of painting colorful lines on the stones proved irresistible, so here we are!
This is a gouache painting that’s about 2.5in x 5in on a 6in square piece of Arches 90lb paper.
A note on color: I do my best adjust the color of the digital images to match as closely as possible, but itβs tricky business. The color is most accurate in the first two photographs above.
